What is religion without true relationship? What is duty without desire? What is fruit without the Spirit? Dead inside. We can try to be kind and patient and self-controlled and long-suffering and gentle, but without Jesus we are like that fake, plastic fruit that sits on dinner tables. If the Lord doesn't build the house, the builders labor in vain. Psalm 127:1 Fake has the appearance of healthy construction and even looks appetizing. But, real has something that fake doesn't: authenticity. It may have a few bruises and look like it's even fallen on the ground, but it's still REAL fruit.
And God is pleased with our real fruit. He doesn't want fake. The world is enamored by flawless outsides but God looks on the inside.
Be real with God. Allow Him into the corners of your life. Allow His spirit to grow and transform you. Cultivate real fruit by seeking Him and obeying His word, even if it's done on shaky legs. If that results in a piece of small fruit that looks seven shades of brown on the outside, it's okay! He sees the tender flesh of first fruits that came from the seed that He planted and He says that is good. Don't waste your time trying to be some polished piece of plastic dinner table fruit. It will leave you empty and unsatisfied and leave others with a bad taste in their mouth. God can use our real fruit to feed others, no matter how imperfect it looks, but He can't use our fake fruit. Jesus didn't give His life for us while we were still sinners so that we would have to be some pretend version of who He created us to be. Let's cultivate real fruit, bruises and all, for His glory.
